About Shirudo AGR+E and Sol+3

What is the difference between AGR+E and Sol+3?

Sol+3 is a newer formulation and can be used alone while sun exposed. It uses different and more powerful antioxidants than AGR+E and also combines UVA and UVB filters. It's a one-step process, you don't have to apply sunscreen after. We found that having only one product makes it easier to comply with frequent applications, a key factor for our products to be effective. It is also more off-white/pale yellow than pure yellow, as the original AGR+E lotion. Unless you swim all day, Sol+3 is a great option and easier to use. The downside is that is it not waterproof.

If you plan to spend a lot of time in the water, it's best to go with AGR+E lotion and a fully waterproof sunscreen on top. So far people who used our original AGR+E lotion had great success with the new Sol+3 formulation as well. A great solution is using Sol+3 in the daytime while sun-exposed and AGR+E Intensive Night Lotion at night. This way you are covered with 5 different types of antioxidants, including alpha-glucosylrutin that made the success of the original AGR+E formulation.

AGR+E plus your favorite sunscreen and AGR+E Intensive Night Lotion at night is the option to go with if you plan to spend a lot of time in the water or if you have a specific sunscreen you prefer to use, like a mineral sunscreen with zinc for example, or a facial sunscreen using less comedogenic ingredients. With this option, you use AGR+E while sun-exposed, massage well, and then apply your sunscreen on top. It's a two steps process. Both options are equally good, it depends on your daily activities and sunscreen personal preferences.

What products is best for me?

We recommend using either Sol+3 and AGR+E Intensive Night Lotion or AGR+E body lotion and AGR+E Intensive NIght Lotion. Both options are equally good, it depends on your daily activities and sunscreen personal preferences.

Sol+3 is a one-step process, it does not require sunscreen on top. AGR+E plus your favorite sunscreen and AGR+E Intensive Night Lotion at night is the option to go with if you plan to spend a lot of time in the water, have an intense physical activity with losts of sweat, or if you have a specific sunscreen you prefer to use, like a mineral sunscreen with zinc for example, or a facial sunscreen using less comedogenic ingredients. With this option, you use AGR+E while sun-exposed, massage well, and then apply your sunscreen on top. It's a two steps process you must repeat every 2 hours at least of after swimming/toweling.

How should I apply Shirudo Sol+3

30 minutes before sun exposure, apply a small quantity on sun exposed area and massage well. Skin should be dry to the touch. Repeat at least every two hours, after swimming or towelling. Sol+3 is not waterproof. You do not need to apply Sol+3 on non-exposed area of the skin. You do not need to start using prior to your vacation unless you want to test it first in case of sensitive skin. We recommend using combined with Shirudo Agr+e Night Lotion at night for the best results.

How should I apply Shirudo AGR+E?

15 minutes before sun exposure, apply a very small quantity on sun exposed skin and massage very well. Skin should be dry to the touch. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen on top. Repeat every two hours, after swimming or towelling. You can also apply at night for moisturizing. You do not need to apply AGR+E on non-exposed area of the skin. You do not need to start using prior to your vacation unless you want to test it first in case of sensitive skin. We recommend using the AGR+E Day & Night Set for the best results.

How much lotion do I need ?

It really depends on the kind on vacation you have; ie a beach holiday requires more lotion than a week of golfing. Usually you need a little less Shirudo lotion than sunscreen for the same period/conditions. Remember only a small quantity of AGR+E or Sol+3 lotion is enough, the important is to massage well. Two 6oz tubes are enough for a full week at the beach using all over all day long. For a week at the beach we recommend our AGR+E Value Bundle or Sol+3 Value Bundle.

Do you offer sample size?

We do not offer sample size. Our lotion requires multiple days of application to know if it's effective or not and a small sample would not be enough. It would false result for most people.

I have a sun allergy. Is this lotion a miracle cure?

No. There is no cure for PMLE, and PMLE is not the only sun allergy or photodermatose. But we think the antioxidants in AGR+E or Sol+3 are the best overall solution for PMLE sufferers. According to clinical studies, a formulation that contains 0.25% Alpha-glucosylrutin and 2% vitamin E used with a broad spectrum sunscreen will lessen or prevent symptoms for approximately 80% of PMLE sufferers. It’s not proven to be effective for any other sun related allergy, and it’s not effective for all PMLE sufferers. We believe it’s the best preventive treatment so far, but unfortunately there is no miracle cure for PMLE. Please read the complete on respective product pages if you have any sensitivities to particular ingredients.

I have yellow/green residues or the lotion is flaking. What's wrong?

What you describe could be 3 things (or combination of the 3): - Too much AGR+E lotion applied, - Massage not vigorous enough, - and/or a bad combination with the sunscreen.  A really small quantity of AGR+E goes a long way. The most important is to massage very well, not the quantity. If a small amount of AGR+E lotion dries on top of you skin, it will create this peeling effect when you rub. It's important to massage until fully absorbed. Skin should be dry to the touch.  Mineral sunscreens with Zinc or Titanium Dioxide do not mix very well with other lotions, including AGR+E. They can sometimes create this 'flaking' effect alone, the difference is that residues are white. Mixed with our lotion it turns yellow/green. Regular sunscreen lotions (Coppertone Sport, Banana Boat, etc) mix better with our lotion than mineral sunscreens or regular sunscreen in dry spray.

Is your lotion safe for kids or pregnant women?

We have not conduct specific test on kids or pregnant women. We have not conduct ingestion test. Our lotion is more than 99% natural and we consider it safer than most shampoo. All ingredients in Shirudo AGR+E have been approved as cosmetic ingredients and contain no added fragrance, colorants, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, paraben, phthalates, talc, musks , methylisothiazolinone (MIT), toluene, mineral oil, paraffin or petrolatum. Like any other cosmetic lotion, we recommend doing a patch test on a small area first, and stop using product if any irritation occurs. Consult your doctor before using any new product.

Can Shirudo AGR+E stain fabrics?

Yes, but it will wash easily unless you wait many days to wash. Alpha-glucosylrutin is naturally yellow in color and fully hydro soluble. Avoid contact with clothing until the skin is touch dry. Should yellow stains occur on clothing, please follow washing instructions. No need for special soap to remove stains, simply wash as you would normally do. If you use only a small quantity of lotion and massage well it will prevent stains.

What is the shelf life of Shirudo lotions?

When stored in good conditions, unopened product has a shelf life of 18 months to 2 years. Once product is open, we recommend using it in the next 5 months. Avoid contamination by using product with clean hands and do not open the tube or touch product inside. The 5 layers white tube will protect lotion from UVs. Follow storage instructions on product label.

Sunscreen UV and protection

Does Shirudo lotions contains UV protection?

Shirudo AGR+E lotion does not contain UV protection. You must apply your favourite broad-spectrum sunscreen on top.

Sol+3 contains both UVA abd UVB filters combined with powerful antioxidants.

What sunscreen do you recommend with AGR+E?

We simply recommend using your regular favorite sunscreen. It’s the reason we develop a lotion without UV protection, so you can keep using the one you love. Our lotion can accommodate any skin type, region of the world, season and time of day.

For the past 10 years, we compiled the most popular sunscreen brands used among PMLE sufferers in the USA and Canada. People tend to use SPF 50 on most sensitive areas or on the first days of exposure, then SPF 30. But the most important is to apply enough and often. The protection index is only good if you use the recommended quantity.

- Neutrogena Ultra Sheer (with Helioplex)
- Ombrelle Sport 50 (with Mexoryl)
- La Roche Posay Anthelios
- Coppertone Sport 30 or 50.
- Ultrasun
- Altruist (only available from EU)
- Ladival (only available from EU)

Mineral sunscreen options (for very sensitive skin, child or baby 6 months +).
They pretty much all leave a white film, instant protection since it’s a physical barrier:
- Neutrogena Sheer Zinc SPF 50
- Ombrelle baby
- Badger's
- Blue Lizard
- Aveeno Baby

Since our lotion is mostly water based, we recommend sunscreen lotion more than oil-based or spray sunscreens.
